State regulations and requirements for advanced practice nursing vary widely. You will need to be aware of the regulations and requirements for the state in which you intend to practice. This assignment is intended to make sure you are ready to meet all legal, certification, and licensure requirements when you complete your education. In addition, this assignment is designed for you to begin shaping a personal practice philosophy that will enable you to create a fulfilling and successful APRN practice. This assignment is to be completed individually. It will require you to do some research. Review your State Board of Nursing website, national certification associations, State Board of Pharmacy, and any pertinent legislative records necessary to determine the regulations for advanced practice nurse licensure and practice in your state (Georgia). You will need to consider the various clinical and non-clinical roles discussed in this course. Some of these may be dictated by your state regulations. Are you required to have a collaborative relationship with a physician? If so, what is your plan for establishing and maintaining this connection? How do you intend to stay current in your continuing education requirements? If you will be an employee, does your employer cover the costs associated with continuing education? Other aspects will be determined by the type of practice you’re envisioning. Do you intend to be an independent contractor? If so, develop a “mock contract” that describes your practice as you would like it to be. Your passions and talents will determine other aspects you’ll want to address. For example, if you intend to start a private practice, what is your plan for developing the necessary business knowledge and skills? Consider the roles that all APRNs fill to one extent or another, such as educator, researcher, and advocate. Are there certain areas where you’ll need additional skills? If so, what is your plan for developing these skills? Do you have a mentor in mind? What is your game plan for establishing this relationship? Write a paper outlining the legal, scope of practice, prescriptive authority, certification, and licensure requirements in your anticipated state of practice (Georgia). Include a plan for how you intend to meet requirements upon completion of your education.
