Social psychology is distinguished by its focus not only on the power of the situation but also on individuals’ construals of the situation (how individuals perceive, comprehend, and interpret the world around them, particularly the behavior or action of others towards themselves).
● Think of some examples from your personal experience where two people (or groups) differed in their construals of the same situation.
● What accounts for differences in construal? Do these differences in any way relate to the two basic motives described in the first unit (self-esteem motive and social cognition motive)?
