Imagine you have the opportunity to send a letter back in time to one of the pioneers of management theory. How would you describe the changes that have been made in management style since the early 1900s? What advice would you offer him on updating his theories? Which of the modern management theories would you recommend he adopt?
· Choose one of the management theorists of the Industrial Revolution era:
1. Frederick Winslow Taylor
2. Max Weber
3. Henry Fayol
· Choose one of the modern management theories introduced in the lesson, and research it on the Internet.
· Write a letter to your chosen theorist, which should include the following elements:
1. A brief description of your understanding of his management theory. Be sure to include both its strengths and its shortcomings.
2. A detailed description of the modern management theory you have chosen. Explain how it updates the theory developed by your theorist, and explain why you feel it is a more effective theory.
3. Offer your theorist some suggestions on how to implement your chosen management theory. Include any elements of the original theory he should retain.
