Karens Writing Plan

Virtual therapy is an effective and convenient alternative to traditional therapy. I am going to show how virtual therapy is convenient for people seeking therapy that live in rural areas or with mobility issues. Also, people seeking support for depression, anxiety, or mental health problems can use virtual therapy without feeling the stigma of being in a waiting room or judged.

Audience:

My audience would be anyone in psychology, anyone that opposes the effectiveness of virtual therapy, people in therapy and people who are looking to receive therapy.

Goal:

My goal would be to prove that virtual therapy is an effective and convenient alternative to traditional therapy. That it can provide the same quality of care, while also providing additional benefits such as convenience and to reduce the stigma providing a sense of anonymity and privacy because you are not seen, this can help reduce the feeling of shame and judgment associated with seeking therapy.

Key points:

1.) Virtual therapy can provide the same quality of care as traditional therapy.

2.) Virtual therapy is more convenient than traditional therapy.

3.) Virtual therapy can reduce stigma associated with traditional therapy.

Potential Resources:

I have a few potential resources one is a book written by Zara Abrams called “How Well is Telepsychology Working?” Another would be a “Evidence-based Resource Guide Series Telehealth for the Treatment of Serious Mental Illness and Substance use Disorders” that was put out by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. Also, have a systematic review and meta-analysis from the International Journal of Mental Health Nursing edition called: Effects of Online Stigma-Reduction Program for People Experiencing Mental Health Conditions it was wrote by Yong-Shian Goh, Qing Yun Jenna Ow Young, and Wai-San Wilson Tam.

Evidence:

The evidence I will provide will show a systematic review of studies that found therapy developed through telemedicine was as effective as face-to-face therapy in treating mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, and PTSD. I also will show how telemedicine makes it easier for patients to access mental health care without taking time off work or traveling to a doctor’s office. Also, I will show how telemedicine reduces the stigma associated with traditional in-person mental health care and makes it easier for people to seek help.
