Option 1: Teaching a Lesson in a Virtual Classroom
Prepare for and present a lesson in a simulated class session with five virtual students.
- Read the learner-facing vignette about the five virtual students.
- Choose one of your lessons (assignment #1, 2, or 3) to present to this class.
- Decide what portion of your lesson (15-20 minutes) to present and how you will present it in the
virtual classroom. - Schedule and participate in your simulation.
- Write a summary and reflection of your experience.
Introduction: Describe the virtual students and classroom. Identify which lesson you chose to present.
Summarize the class session.
What did you present and when (include the date and time)?
How did you present it?
How did the students react?
What adaptations did you need to make as you were teaching the lesson?
Describe any challenges and how you addressed them.
In an appendix, include any materials (or pictures of materials) that you used in your lesson.
Write a reflection:
What went well?
What additional information would have been helpful to have prior to the session?
What would you do differently the next time you teach this lesson? - What advice would you give others who will be doing a similar simulation?
See Appendix E for the grading rubric for Assignment #4, Option 1.
Option 2: In Person Observation of a Lesson
The following field experience should take place during the first five weeks of the course, as students
must submit their field experience report to their instructor in week seven for evaluation. (Contact your Instructor if there will be a delay in completing this assignment because of a scheduling challenge.) Students must conduct this field experience in a setting other than their own classroom to gain a different experience and perspective. Arrange to observe a teacher conducting a lesson related to personal and/or social skills with a group or class of students that includes students with IEPs.
