choose TV or movie characters to observe. Mute what they are saying and then sit back and watch. Take notes while viewing and then use your notes to write a typed two-page essay (MLA format) describing what you witnessed.
Include the following:
Introduce what show/movie you chose, which character you focused on and what their self-concept may include based on their communication style.
What type of gestures (emblems, regulators, illustrators, adaptors and affect displays) are they using? Identify at least 10 by highlighting or underlining the action.
What are they conveying (main message, emotions etc.)? How many repetitions?
How often do they use each one? Are they aware of these gestures?
What are the circumstances (context)? What’s going on in the scene?
