In 2015, Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin announced that Google would become “Alphabet,” a parent company over all of the company’s many divisions. Google would become just one division under that parent company, as What’s behind Google’s Alphabet shakeup?,” a YouTube video hosted by The Verge, explains. Many people think that one of the biggest reasons for the restructuring is financial accounting–in other words, to please Google’s shareholders.
